WSA013 Hat Pins – The Finishing Touch

Participate in this workshop and learn how to create a beautiful hatpin for that special hat in your wardrobe. Dee will guide you through the steps required to make this fashion accessory. She will also share a brief history of hatpins including how they were worn. This workshop is an opportunity to learn a little history plus a unique experience in creativity! Participants will take home a beautiful hatpin they make in class.

EMBELLISHMENTS

WSE100 How do You Dress a Hat?

This workshop concentrates on simple embellishments for stylish hats that need ‘something’ to make it unique. Embellishments include two different styles of ribbon flowers/leaves, a double bow using horsehair braid, a horsehair pouf, a velvet chou, and fabric feathers. Participants will take home a variety of embellishments made in class. The class is suitable for those interested in vintage and/or modern day embellishments. Many of the techniques are also suitable for embellishing apparel.

WSE200 More Embellishments

If you want some eye-catching embellishments for your hats, you will want to participate in this workshop. You will learn how to make a ribbon cockade, curl and sculpt feathers, use wire to stylize ornamentation, make and apply bias binding and much more. Other embellishments will be discussed during the class that will give you lots of ideas to take home, along with the embellishments you make in the class.

WSG006 Gloves: The Forgotten Accessory

In this unique workshop, you will learn everything you need to know to hand stitch your own gloves. The glovemaking process is illustrated with demonstrations, samples and visual aids. You will prepare a thumb and fourchette then hand stitch them into the trank (glove). After the workshop, you will be inspired to hand stitch gloves for every occasion.

WSG013 Glove Yourself With Sherpa

You’ll love the look and feel of faux sherpa gloves and they will also protect you from the cold winter weather for many years to come. Faux sherpa is sueded on one side (outside) and ‘fluffy’ (inside) on the other. In this workshop you will learn how to hand stitch a pair of luxurious faux sherpa gloves. WSH005 Millinery Made Easy

Using basic millinery techniques, create your own pillbox hat in this comprehensive workshop. Learn how to create a pattern from which to make a buckram frame, apply batting and bias tape, cover the frame with fabric and insert the lining and grosgrain ribbon. It's easy and you will be able to use these techniques to make many different styles of hats. This workshop provides the basic foundation for making buckram frame hats.

WSH010 Victorian Hats

There is something captivating about the hats worn during the Victorian era. This is your opportunity to create a beautiful Victorian hat while learning millinery techniques. You will learn how to - make a pattern, apply millinery wire to buckram, apply batting and bias binding to a hat frame, cover and embellish a hat frame, insert a lining and attach grosgrain ribbon. The hat may be made with a large, wide brim or small narrow brim. This is an excellent workshop for costume and theatre people. To embellish the hat, follow up with the ‘How do you Dress a Hat?’ workshop.

The mad hatter style hat was very popular in the 1960s and it’s still popular. This workshop focuses on sewing a hat made from a fashion fabric with a nap including velvet, velveteen, and suedecloth. You will learn how to interline a hat to give it body and support and also, how to roll the brim to eliminate the puckers.

WSX005 Millinery Makeover

We recycle everything from clothing to boxes to gift wrap to Christmas cards so why not recycle hats? This workshop is designed to recycle the straw and felt hats in your closet that, for some reason, you haven’t worn in years. The hat(s) may be damaged, soiled, old, not the right style, or don’t fit properly - whatever the reason, wouldn’t it be wonderful to recycle the hat(s) and create a new hat that you can wear!

WSX008 Pattern Drafting I

The first module in a series of workshops on millinery pattern drafting, this workshop will focus on a hat with a flat crown and several brim styles. On the first day, participants will draft the appropriate pattern pieces for fashion fabric, interfacing, interlining and lining and then create a ‘paper hat’ to check for accuracy and style. The second day, participants sew their hat in a fashion fabric of their choice, insert the lining and if time permits, trim the hat with an embellishment.

WSX012 Pattern Drafting II

This is the second module in the series of workshops designed to focus on millinery pattern drafting. The class begins with participants measuring their head size. Then, the remainder of the first day is spent drafting the pattern pieces required for a section crown and several styles of brims. Participants will also learn how to make a ‘paper hat’ from their pattern pieces to check the style and fit. The second day, participants will sew their hat using their own patterns and fashion fabric.
